What reliable water does for a hunting property
In dry Panhandle summers, water is the scarcest habitat element on most properties. A dependable source shifts home ranges. Deer bed closer, turkeys roost closer, and quail coveys build their day around it. Land with year-round water carries more game than land without it, season after season.
It also shows up in appraisals and lease rates. Water infrastructure is a capital improvement a buyer or lessee can see working the day they visit. On leased hunting country, a documented water system is often the difference between renewing at the old rate and renewing at a better one.
The effect compounds with placement. Water near bedding cover, feed, and travel corridors builds a daily pattern you can hunt. Water in the wrong spot just waters the neighbor’s deer on their way through.
Reviving the old well on the back pasture
Many hunting tracts carry an abandoned stock well from the ranching decades. Some are candidates for revival: a camera or bailer check, a cleanout, and a small solar submersible can put a dead well back to work for a fraction of new drilling.
Some are not worth reviving, and an unsealed abandoned well is a hazard for people, livestock, and the aquifer. Where a well is past saving, we plug it to state standards and site the new water where it serves the hunt better.
Winter matters more than most people think
Wildlife water is not only a summer project. Late-season deer and wintering birds use dependable water when stock tanks freeze and playa lakes stand dry. Deep storage, buried supply lines, and freeze-tolerant drinker details keep the system serving through the cold months, which is exactly when you are hunting it.
Build in spring, pattern by fall
Game takes a season to build a new water source into its pattern. A drinker finished in April is a stand location by November. A drinker finished in October is a promise for next year. Spring builds also miss the summer heat that makes concrete and trenching miserable work, and they dodge the fall scheduling rush entirely.

How much water does a wildlife system need to produce?
Far less than stock water. A few hundred gallons a day of storage throughput serves substantial game densities. Weak wells qualify.
Can you work on a leased property?
Yes, with the landowner’s written authorization. We handle that conversation with you so the improvement is documented for both sides.
Do you build quail-safe drinkers?
Yes. Escape ramps and shallow access are standard on our small-game installations. A drinker should never drown the birds it feeds.
What maintenance does a wildlife system need?
A glance on hunting trips: float working, panel clean, tank sound. We offer an annual check that fits it into our regular service routes.
Can one system serve both cattle and wildlife?
Yes, and it is common: a stock tank for the herd with a wildlife drinker teed off the same storage. One well, two jobs.
